“Imagine your future. Think about what you could do to make it even better. Now do those things!” – Futurist Jim Carroll
It need not be complicated.
Someone asked why I focus on the future AND innovation and creativity, but also talk a lot about leadership. It’s found, right here, in these three steps.
The future? It’s not that difficult to imagine what it will look like if we are focused on a 10-year horizon, other than the potential for volatility and surprise that might come our way. Much of what we know about where we will be ten years out is all around us right now, if you know where to look.
The innovation and creativity piece is found in step two – given where we know we are going, what could you do to improve upon it, make it yours, and be a part of it? This involves not accepting the status quo but choosing to change it, shape it, mold it, and create it to suit your purpose.
The third part is leadership peace – spurring yourself into action, moving forward, and avoiding indecision.
That, in a nutshell, sums up what I do.
It’s what you can do too if you choose to become someone who aligns to finding the opportunities of tomorrow rather than just fighting the fires of today.
The interesting thing is that the pandemic has forever changed these three steps for many individuals and organizations. The future is now coming at us with greater speed; many people learned how to shape and change their future faster as a result, and quickly learned the benefits and opportunities that come from acting fast. We witnessed a profound change in how many organizations function, and if you have not learned and capitalized on those lessons, you are now running at a significant disadvantage!
If you think about it, these three steps also align to the title of one of my books, Think Big, Start Small, Scale Fast!
