“‘WTF’ isn’t a great strategy for dealing with unforeseen circumstances!” – Futurist Jim Carroll
The airline gods threw everything at me today – sudden unplanned snow, a deicing novice in training, a cancelled flight, another missed connection, slush and runway cleaning on the next flight and then even more. We’ve been travelling now for 8 hours and have barely gone more than 250 geographical miles as the crow flies.
I’ll admit I did not handle it as well as I could have. I did have all the necessary backup flights and backup plans in place – a road warrior for 30 years, I know what to do. But when one of the most important flights had a 1 hour delay because the pilot was late due to an inbound aircraft – well, lets just say that everyone needs to work on their emotional maturity sometimes. Point taken.
So it’s 1am in Vancouver, we have no idea when we might push back for this red-eye flight home, and I’m pretty tired.
So why this quote? Because life will throw you continuous curve balls. Your business will get hit by the unknown. You’ll be challenged by the unforeseen. You’ll be rocked by the uncertain. You can’t sit back in shock and say, “WTF dude, where did that come from” and then freeze up. You always need a course of action, a plan, momentum, a strategy.
WTF is not a strategy.
That is all!
