Innovation, frogs and the future

A whirlwhind of activity over the last few weeks, with keynotes for Verizon in Orlando on how to instill an innovation culture; several sessions for SAP in Atlanta and San Jose on how to become a more strategic midsized organization; a keynote for the Canadian Horticultural Assn and the Canadian Lumbermen’s Association, as well as the Utility Telecom Providers Assoication. Next week, a keynote for the First Nations Education Conference in Quebec City.

Sometime ago, LINK Magazine ran this article, “Is this guy crazy or just ahead of his time?” They were referring to my massive home network, which now includes somewhat over 5.5 terrabytes of storage….

Music access is a big part of the network — and in heavy rotation this week is American Idiot by Green Day. Weird — both my 9 year old son and I are finding this our favorite album ….

Everyone is into …. trends

I’m in New Orleans, looking out from my room on the 18th floor down the river … getting ready for my keynote to the Corporate Housing Providers Assocation. Later this week, I speak to teachers with the Calgary School Board, and then a group of hardwood companies. Next week, a conference on travel and trends in the tourism industry — last week, I keynoted a conference of chain drug store executives and pharmaceutical companies on future trends in health care; before that, San Diego for the Point of Purchase Advertising International group. Two weeks out? An event in Key Largo for a liquor distributor, followed by a telecom conference in Montreal, followed by events with SAP in Atlanta, Houston and San Jose, with a keynote to horticultural group sandwiched in-between…

Whew!

The key theme / trend emering here is that all these folks are looking for exactly what I provide — unique insight into the challenging issues of today, with guidance that is specific, relevant and practical as to how to thrive and survive these challenging and turbulent times….

Earlier this week, I met with the editors of O (Oprah Magazine), Elle, Family Circle, Parenting, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Working Mother, American Baby, Soap Opera Weekly, Woman’s Day, Glamor, Teen Vogue, Seventeen, Good Housekeeing, Family Circle and about 40 other national trade magazines, in New York City.

I was there on behalf of Banana Boat, in their annual product launch, talking about my “10 Trends that Will Rock the Outdoor World in 2005.” You can read the list and see the “fun facts” here.

In preparing, I undertook detailed research and analysis of leading lifestyle, demographic, social and cultural trends, to put into perspective what we can expect in terms of active, outdoor living in the future.

It’s a good example of the unique type of event that I am hired for — in this case, I was retained by a leading global PR agency on behalf of their client.
