“Seek the small wins! You’ll get joy from a few small victories!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

We went for a walk on the golf course yesterday – it’s closed still and likely not to open for quite some tine. While coming up alongside the brush on #16, we spotted a golf ball.
And in a lovely moment of serendipity, we discovered that it was my ball – with my distinctive, optimistic ball mark!
I’ll take that as a win for the day!
Small wins are important right now, because when our lives have been upended and dramatically shifted, the overall manner by which we judge our success has changed. It’s easy to feel pretty helpless and overwhelmed, and so I’ve found that getting a few small victories brings a different element to the day.
I was out for a walk with someone in our small ‘circle’ of 5 yesterday who is struggling with the situation, and spoke about this need for small wins and small victories. I think we need to have a feeling of success at the end of the day.
To get that, at the start of the day, we need to define ourselves a plan of things that we will try to accomplish. If we achieve them, we get a few small victories.
And that matters – because we need a sense of accomplishment!
With that in mind, I’ve gone to war with the sticks on my lawn. Every time there’s a wind storm, I get a few more. I get my lawn back in shape. A small victory!
Seek small wins – get some victories!
It matter’s!

Give someone a call today, out of the blue, show some kindness.
With that, hey Fehmi, Christine, Tracey at Prelude Salon and Spa! We’re thinking of you!

I’ll take the small wins when they come – because I’m already working for them!

“When your old reality is gone for a time, it’s best to make a new one!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

What other choice do we have?
Reality has forever changed, and so it’s up to each and every one of us to somehow make the most of it.
I will admit I miss the stage, the travel, the audiences, the joy that comes from inspiring people. I miss the opportunity to really dig into the issues and trends that a particular client faces, and potential pathways forward. Heck, I miss the followup emails thanking me for my talk!
But that’s gone, and probably for quite some time. So I can’t wave a magic wand and make my go back there.
I can do the things that I can control – I can focus on what I will do today to get through the day, working to capture those moments when I can get a smile onto my face. To bring a smile to those in my small personal circle around me, and to the larger virtual circles in which I participate.
And I know I should do what I can to try to continually position myself for a better tomorrow despite massive uncertainty.
With that in mind, I extracted this image from a clip I filmed in the home broadcast studio yesterday in which I talk about these issues.
I’m going to post it shortly to my blog – I’d encourage you to watch it at https://jimcarroll.com/blog
Because…. In the clip I talk about how I had a small win!
In this new life I’m building, the wins come small and tiny, but any win is a win, and we’ll take them as they come!
Because to a degree, it’s all about redefining success in our new reality!

There’s lots happening online with science – healthcare, genomics, technology. Fast genomics, open source respirators and more. Global collaboration is fast and furious, and its fast and furious out there.
I filmed this in the home studio. This stuff is cause for optimism!
