Yesterday’s show.
The audio is kind of bad – it defaulted to the wrong mic – so I will probably re-film. But it was a fun set, so I’ll post it for now and replace it later.

“Breaking News! Tomorrow’s opportunities are still out there! What are you doing at this very moment to be a part of them?” – Futurist Jim Carroll

Who would have thought it could be so much fun to have a home broadcast studio! I get to design a new show any moment I want to!
Yesterday’s ‘show’ was about the fact that I was witnessing a sudden flood of traffic to a particular Web page on my site – 20 Trends into 2030: Are You Ready for the Massive Transformation of Just About Everything. You can find it at https://2030.jimcarroll.com
It’s an overview of the key manner by which a wide variety of different industries are undergoing rapid and relentless change ; I pulled it together about a year ago, based on a lot of the material I had been using on stage in these twenty industries.
If you don’t know how your industry is going to change, you should – and so you should hit the document.
20 Trends into 2030: Are You Ready for the Massive Transformation of Just About Everything?
Yesterday morning, I noticed a particular organization starting to hit this page pretty hard – I have pretty good Web traffic analytics. This tells me that people in this organization might be moving past the ‘shock and awe’ stage of Covid-19 and the pandemic, and are once again back to figuring out their longer term strategy.
Aren’t organizations always thinking long term? Not at all – my work during the downturn of 2002, and again during 2009, told me that many global Fortune 1000 organizations, as well as small and medium sized companies, simply put long term planning to the side while managing short term complexity. In addition, many begin to defer any analysis or decisions that they might need to make to align to that future – I call that aggressive indecision.
I covered all of these topics in the show – a concise overview of the ‘breaking news’ of the day, and what we can learn from it!

I returned to my virtual broadcast studio yesterday, and filmed a video as to this fact – while you’ve been busy managing your pandemic reality, the future has still continued it’s relentless, disruptive march.
You need to make sure you are still aligned to what comes next!

“If it doesn’t work? Blow it up. Do it again. Repeat!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

I filmed a bit the other day for a story as to how disruptive trends are coming back onto the global leadership radar – and what organizations need to do about it. I had a great stage set, but I wasn’t happy with my performance. So I stewed over it for a day – it consumed a lot of my mind during my golf round – and figured out what I needed to do with it instead. I needed a different approach.
I came back and did it again from anther perspective. Reorganized my thoughts; changed the approach; mixed it up a bit; focused a bit more on the key message.
I nailed it!
I spoke about my dilemma in a brief intro to my video – this was the lead in to my successful attempt. Give it a watch. I’ll post the full leadership video later today.

Confronting your failure by trying again – this, in a nutshell, in the secret to success.
Try, fail, do it again.
That’s all.
The hardest thing about this approach is developing the willingness to give up on the investment you might have already made in doing something. Perhaps that’s due to your innate stubbornness – an inability to let things go.
And yet you’ll find that you live under a relentless internal microscope of achievement. You won’t be happy with what you’ve done. It will gnaw at the back of your mind – reminding you that you could do a better job. You’ll try and convince yourself that your effort was ok, maybe – just good enough.
And then, that little voice will come back and tell you – you could have done better!
And if you don’t resolve this internal argument, you’ll never be happy with yourself!
And so – you do it again! And you get it right!
That’s all you need to do.

Maybe you’ve been stuck in the 7 stages of pandemic grief – anger, denial, bargaining.
The smart ones among us moved to ‘acceptance’ a long time ago – including myself. What will your post pandemic future look like?
If you aren’t thinking about it now, you won’t have the strategies to get you to this new world of opportunity.

“Our pandemic path to the future? Endless days of unpredictable routine as a result of the routine unpredictability that surrounds us!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

A shoutout to my good buddy Ian Bates for this one – as a teacher, he’s in the midst of a return to school, albeit in a massive zone of uncertainty as to what actually comes next. While talking about the unknown complexities that he is faced with, I commented:
Long term view, 1 month from now: your life will be settled into an unpredictable routine.
And with that, I captured the perfect synopsis of the complex life of many people at this moment in time. We might not know where the heck we are going and how we will end up there, but we sure are making a great time.
There is a tremendous amount of uncertainty in an uncertain world right now – all having to do with the big question, ‘when will we return to normal?’
I don’t believe we will ever get back to the ‘way it was before.’ The axis of our universe has shifted.
People seem to have an attitude that our old future ‘will come roaring back” when there is a vaccine, or some other seismic event happens. And yet, the science is telling us that the virus, even in the context of a vaccine, is not like an on/off switch – i.e. that today we’re in the era of Covid, and then one day Covid-19 is magically over.
It won’t be like that; it doesn’t work like that. It’s going to be a long, complex, tortuous return to a world that is forever unlike what it was before.
And here’s the thing – there will be a lot of unknowns thrown our way during this wild, crazy ride. Do you think you’ve had an unpredictable six months? Wait until you see the next 60!
If that is the case, what are you doing to align to a ‘non-roaring back before 2030?’ scenario? What’s your plan to survive and thrive in a wildly unpredictable future, and what routines are you building into your day to help you on your path?
