Part of my “26 Principles, Revisited” series — checking my own math, nine months into the year I predicted.
Scale immediately or fail slowly. There is no middle ground.

Day 15’s bet: in an exponential market, there’s no comfortable middle speed. You either scale fast enough to reach a sustainable orbit, or you fail slowly while pretending you’re still in the race.
The pattern held through 2026: AI-native companies that scaled aggressively from day one kept pulling further ahead of incumbents trying to bolt AI onto an existing, slower operating model. The middle ground — cautious, partial adoption — increasingly looks like exactly the slow failure I described.
Verdict: Held up — the middle ground kept shrinking, just like predicted.
Next up: Principle #16, Scale Blindness — revisited.
