“A thought for this complicated 2021 holiday season: Let’s be grateful for what we have gained with our hope for our future rather than being trapped within a tiny moment!” Futurist Jim Carroll

This is NOT the Christmas and holiday season that many expected throughout the year as science delivered to us the miracle of Covid vaccines. Omicron apparently thought differently.

Yet, optimism is all about redefining the moment. In my case, I’m not trapped inside a snowglobe – I’m in a moment defined by a sphere of opportunity!

Going forward, things WILL get better, and so at this very moment, let’s be grateful for where we can be going, rather than bitter about what we’ve lost with this particular holiday season! That’s the point I’m trying to emphasize while trapped within my snowglobe. It’s not the ideal place to be, but at some moment, I’ll be able to get out! And even so, while I’m inside – there’s optimism!

This quote took a lot of work and underwent revisions, and I’m still not certain it captures my thinking. So maybe try this little video, with Santa indicating his approval: it might help to emphasize my point. Plus, there’s another snowman!

Bottom line? My snowglobe? It’s all about opportunity! While my particular world has changed – events and meetings into the spring now look doubtful – I’ve certainly enhanced my virtual broadcast studio skills to an unprecedented degree. Somehow that is going to play a role in the ongoing evolution of my future.

So while I am, like everyone else, resentful for the fact that we are in yet another complex Covid situation, the fact remains that it could be worse. If I just keep focused on the medium term and long term, and not lose myself to the bitterness of the moment, I’ll have moved my frame of mind to the place of hope!

Have a wonderful holiday season! Stay optimistic!
