“Uneven progress – that sharp contrast between your goals and your actions!” – Futurist Jim Carroll
During times of uncertainty and volatility, every day can seem to involve a battle between what you hope to accomplish and what you actually manage to get done.
I had one of those days yesterday and struggled for quite a bit of time in the office. I’m spending some of my time working on my next book and hit a stumbling block as I tried to discover the soul of a story I was trying to tell. I couldn’t get out of it.
So I went for a walk. That solved it!
Even so, I know that I managed to get one step further ahead in the game because while out on my walk, I went through the stumbling block in my head and discovered a new pathway through.
So maybe I had one step half and a step and a half-forward. That’s progress!
It’s easy during these days when the future seems so uncertain, and clarity is absent, to stay focused. One year into this thing, I’m realizing more and more that the first version of this quote – “Sometimes it’s OK to have a day with a sharp contrast between your goals and your actions!” – makes a lot of sense!
