“Live your life with one basic belief: we will never run out of sunshine!” – Futurist  Jim Carroll

Hey, there’s a polar vortex over my house! It’s awesome – but did yuo notice that the vortex also brings a lot of sunshine once the storm clears? That’s the nature of what happens with a massive dose of bone-chilling cold. It’s awesome!!!!! With that, on my series of 19 Trends for 2019. Today, #14 today is: “The end of oil!”

Simple truth: the science, cost decline & adoption of solar, batteries, EV’s and other alternatives to carbon are accelerating. Oil, gas, coal: they’ve had their day. Political idiocy can’t change that reality. The implications? There is hope yet!

Some of my 19 trends for 2019 aren’t profound, in that people are already aware of them. What is important is acknowledging the speed and reality of trend. So here’s the thing: despite the current moment of political idiocy around us involving 19th century disruption such as coal, there is one undeniable fact going into the future : oil is over.

As the CEO of one global energy company said on stage before my keynote for a global energy conference, “we have one last oil boom left. Then that’s it.” Oil will always be with us, but it is now on the decline and alternatives are clearly on the ascendant.

The acceleration of the science that leads to the end of oil is undeniable. Batteries EV’s, solar, wind, biomass – you name it, and in the long run, science wins.

I like the sunshine concept as a motivational tool as well – we all love the sun. It’s even great when it is overhead while you are skiing in the midst of a massive polar vortex! Sunshine is life! People will always find solace in the warmth and comfort of the sun.

You can never stop chasing the sun. Have a bad day? Find the sun. Feeling a little pessmistic? Find your sunshine.

Some people suffer from SAD – and that’s sad! But inevitability the reason for their disorder ceases to be as spring takes hold!
