“A steady diet of chaos requires you to have your optimism energy bar with you at all times!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

I don’t normally watch the evening news, but did last night. Whoah! Clearly, we are headed into a new era of even more global turmoil. It probably won’t end well.

Last night, former director of the CIA Leo Panetta made the comment that we are going through a ‘steady diet of chaos.’ That phrase caught my attention!

And so last night, I began cutting up a video where I’m on the stage in 2009, talking about how to get through the global economic meltdown. I’ll post it in a bit – it gives some useful mind guidance as we go into the next downturn.

I’ve been through five recessions in my working career, and as we head into the next one, my lessons from the stage in 2008-10 are still critical – be relentless in your efforts, redouble your focus, be resolute in your goal.

It’s when you have the potential to slip that you need to make sure you don’t lose sight of your destination. It’s when you are confused that you can lose the judgement that normally guides you. It’s when you are weak and pessimistic of your future that you make the mistakes that prevent you from getting there intact.

It’s quite fun if you look up the phrase “diet chaos” online, because it leads you to the effect of what happens when you face similar levels of chaos in your diet efforts. Consider one site: diet chaos ”leads to confusion, stress and feeling overwhelmed. Physically, it causes a stress response in the body… “

Yup, that about sums it up! People are starting to feel this way about the economy.

This steady diet of economic chaos, global uncertainty and insanity politics driven by a crazy guy with no strategy and no plan is causing similar feelings of anxiety with people.

What I know from all of the previous recessions I’ve been through is that we eventually come out the other side, and those who focus on growth, are relentless in their innovation, and who double down on their optimism are those who win in the long run.
