Imagine that you have a job in which you get to freak people out on a real basis!

No, not @AliceCooper – me!

You should witness some of the audience reactions I see at times when I’m up on the stage. Worry, concern, fear, shock, stress — I can see it in the faces of some of those in the crowd.

But that’s the minority – the rest seem to display enthusiasm, smiles. An understanding that they are on the right track.

Why the different responses? Because simply put, some people do not like the future. They don’t like what it represents, fear the change it brings, are apprehensive of the disruption it will cause, and worried about how they will cope.

They’re not in the right mindset, and didn’t really hear what I said in the opening minutes of my talk: “Some people see the future and see a threat. Innovators see the same trend and see a threat!” With that mindset, they are busy taking apart the trend and figuring out how to work with it, shape it, embrace it.

The fearful ones? They are busy trying to determine how to build a barrier around the trend, avoid it, ignore it, complain about it. What a depressing bunch!

But I never give up, because I can see them – you – in the audience, and continue to work my material to try to bring them over. Over to the other side of hope, enthusiasm, insight and opportunity.
