“Initiative matters! Start out with the least important most important thing you can do!” – Futurist Jim Carroll
It’s easy to make the excuses that will let you stop from starting doing something. Don’t do that. Get going!
People can be overwhelmed by the scope of the challenge in front of them, and that fact alone can hold them back from starting out to do what they need to do. That’s why the second part of my innovation mantra – “Think big, start small, scale fast” – focuses on small steps.
If you take small steps, you remove the feeling of being overwhelmed, and it at least gets you going.
If you can’t take on the overly complex massive project you in front of you, at least start carving out one small part to tackle. Reduce the scope of the long term challenge by doing only a small part of it in the short term.
As many folks often say, take but one day at a time!
