“Be thankful for the opportunity to create the future you would like, not necessarily the future you would have had!” – Futurist  Jim Carroll

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving today – for some unique reason, it’s a month earlier than the country to their south!

And so today, people take a pause in their busy lives, and focus on the ideas of gratitude and being thankful.
The cool thing about being a futurist on stage is that I get the chance to shape the future of many people in the audience – if they are open to my ideas and my message. Some won’t be – they are so locked into their negativity on change that they can’t see the upside of tomorrow through the downside of their current reality.

But for the rest of the audience, I can paint a picture of opportunity and a canvas of hope! There are a spectacular number of trends around us today which provide for new products, lines of business, markets, and activities. All you need to do is learn about them and focus on them – and you are already on the right path!
On a personal level, you can choose to live your life with relentless optimism, and do all the things that give energy to your positive belief system.
That’s the key thing – when it comes to your future right now, it’s not your situation, it’s your attitude!
Take a look at the picture – I’m on stage explaining this very concept (I’m a little small – it was a great stage!). George is getting yelled at by Mr. Spacely for some transgression. It’s pretty likely that George is focused on the lousy situation that he’s in at that very moment, not thinking about what he could do to create a better moment. Even those in the future struggled with defining their future!
