“There is a child alive today who will jump into a flying car at some point in their lifetime; it will quickly whiz them to their destination on it’s own. It’s the era of acceleration, change is real, and it can suddenly go from from fast to furious. The trick is knowing when to get onboard!” – Futurist  Jim Carroll

‘’The photo is from an event I had last year in the U.K.; the story is from yesterday, for a private client meeting where I spoke to seniors executives of a major financial services firm. They’re in the insurance, commercial and personal banking industries.

They brought me in to challenge their thinking on the future, and what they might start doing to align themselves to the fast trends of today. I spoke about the issue of self-driving electric cars, and presented the challenges that come with such a massive industry shift.
Such as, what happens to the auto lending process when a 21 year old today expects to be able to get approval for an auto loan in 45 seconds or less on their mobile device? How do we sell automative insurance in an era in which many people have stopped buying cars – because of the rise of car sharing services? In which the number of automative incidents decreases because of intelligent highway technology.

I’ll grant that the road to the future is often difficult, complex and tragic, but the trends are real.
The question for the folks in the room yesterday was – when does all this happen? And that’s the big challenge – it is becoming increasingly difficult to answer that question!
The future happens slowly — and then, all at once. The best you can do is to make sure you are ready with your strategy, have built up your experience, and have the flexibility to move fast when it happens. In other words – think big, start small, scale fast!’’
