“Let your creative self do something fundamentally frivolous every single day! Your practical self will thank you for it later!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

My big success yesterday was I learned how to draw on my iPad, and have it appear on top of the video that I might be projecting to the world.

My sense of accomplishment was incalculable!

A totally frivolous task that did nothing to lead to what might be judged a successful day in the traditional sense of the word, but my mind is now buzzing with opportunities.

Fundamentally frivolous! I must admit that over the last few weeks, I have found some creative inspiration in reading the rulings from some of the lawyers and judges opposing the attempt by a certain failed man and his tiny arm of delusional tin-hat despots to destroy democracy. In this case, the Pennsylvania Attorney General filing had this to say:

“In seeking such unprecedented relief, Petitioners might be expected to present claims of the utmost constitutional gravity ….Instead, the pair of claims they advance are fundamentally frivolous.”

It’s phrases like that which sometimes catch my imagination and brighten my innovation day!

Fundamentally frivolous! It’s a wonderful phrase that is quite derogatory in its original use above, but for my purpose, fits the mold of my continued exploration and reinvention! I have a new concept that can now be used to justify my minor explorations, my small efforts, my insignificant innovations. Taken individually, they are but a waste of time – but combined together, they provide additional new important skills! For example, I can use them to highlight particular areas on my screen, markup particular bits of video, draw attention to a key screen element.

I have no idea what I will do with this new and fundamentally frivolous awesome skill, but I’m pretty sure it will take me somewhere on my continued voyage of reinvention.

How about you? What are you doing today to waste your time in the most wonderfully beneficial manner?

As an aside, here’s the moment I discovered I could draw with my finger into an online broadcast stream!
