“Designing yourself a better future should not be a bridge too far for your psychological imagination!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

I had the screen-grab from a ‘show’ some months back when I was busy learning how to place video within images – and this morning, set off in search of a phrase to use with it.

I found it in my collection of source material – it’s actually an observation that I saw in a recent article in The New Yorker concerning the destructive journey that the US has found itself within over the last few weeks!

“This disconnect exists because we’re living in a world that is grounded and checked by reason. His is grounded only in his emotional needs and fantasies. I think this is a useful framework to understand why we all have repeatedly been shocked by his behaviour for years. It’s just a bridge too far for most of our psychological imaginations … “

I desperately try to avoid political commentary with what I do, but sometimes, you can’t avoid the obvious implications on the future. I will say this – I really believe that the US as we know it will cease to exist with twenty years. Those states that fuel the GDP, innovate with the future, and look forward rather than back, will simply have had enough with those who work to continue to return the country to its hateful, regressive, backward-looking ways.

Back to the bridge!

Your imagination is the root of all opportunity, and you must ensure that you don’t place barriers that get in the way of its’ potential success. Part of your role in achieving change comes from your ability to cross the chasm of fear, the cliff of inaction, and the abyss of indecision – that’s the only way you’ll manage to cross over to the other side of success. That’s a trite sentence full of bromides, but often it is that type of thinking which can motivate us and spur us on.

So sit back, and take an inventory of the barriers which you let get in the way of your potential success. Then, think about the methods and actions you might pursue to cross over and through them! Because over on the other side you’ll find the future.

It’s your job to get there in the form and fashion that you can achieve with your best imagination!
