“Every dark moment is still imbued with the opportunity of technicolor!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

Opportunity? It involves opening the door to your imagination!

That sounds trite, but it’s a concept that I’ve always tried to live my life by. And it became the theme to a little video clip I filmed yesterday – as to how we can always strive to do better in terms of the quality of the virtual events that we can bring to the world. It was yet another message to my meeting planner, speaker bureau agents, and other partners in the global meeting and events industry.

Do you get the picture reference? If not, watch the clip here!

The context of the image? I have vivid memories of being terrified by the tornado scene in the Wizard of Oz, which I first saw around the age of 8. And yet, at the same time, I was absolutely mesmerized by the moments in which Dorothy opens the door of her home upon crashing to the ground. It’s always been a perfect metaphor in my mind for the opportunity that can come through the simple act of opening up our minds to a different and new reality.

For me, it’s a perfect storyline for the eventual potential of 2021.

It’s also a great concept by which to think about your ability to align with a different future. When it comes to innovation and creativity, many people lock themselves into a monochromatic world, unable to accelerate their imagination with a vast range of different hues of perception. They tend to see sameness all around them, never developing the capability to alter their ‘reality palette’ with the broad brushstrokes of different forms of thinking.

The result is that rather than crafting a vision bursting with ideas by fully utilizing their canvas of creativity, they structure a dull, bleak future that lacks any sort of imagination. To me, that’s a sad thing!

Innovation? Open the door of perception!
