“Reinvent! If you examine your situation carefully, there is always an opportunity for you to be a ‘new you!’” – Futurist  Jim Carroll

You need not be stuck with who you are today – you can be a different person tomorrow! And you need not sell what you sell today – and in fact, you’ll need to sell something completely different tomorrow!

That’s the essence of trend #10 in my ’19 Trends for 2019” just posted today:

In the era of acceleration, everything changes – relentlessly. You won’t be selling tomorrow what you sell today. You’ll either be selling something very, very different, or you won’t be selling anything at all. You need to reinvent, continuously, and quickly.

The key statistic I always use on stage is the fact that 60% of Apple’s revenues comes from products that didn’t exist 4 years ago – a blistering pace of innovation. It might not be the case now, and Apple might not be reinventing fast enough to deal with the reality of what is unfolding around it.

And yet Apple’s situation could be the waypoint for every organization. I’ve been speaking to every industry about fast change for 25 years – and I know that their markets, products and industries will likely not be recognizable within 5 to 10 years. Some don’t get it. They become Sears, Kodak, Blockbuster.

On a personal level, the fact that you are reading this post shows that you have a desire to reinvent, get a redo, and do things differently. The good news is that you can – you always have a unique opportunity for a second go-round. You simply need to develop the determination to do it.

Maybe you too have become like Sears and Kodak. You get stuck. You develop habits that are hard to break. You don’t always see your blind spots, your weaknesses, and you lost touch with what makes you, you. You resist change. You fail.

You avoid that by reinventing, constantly!
