My wife is a very intelligent woman – and she tells me that I should never talk about politics on stage. And so generally I don’t – I use my realty TV show slide instead! It’s a fitting metaphor for the crazy times that define our world today. Personal responsibility for success is an important concept I talk about on stage. You can blame your wins or losses on others – that’s the easy way out. All you can do is to make a decision that if you don’t like the status quo and your current reality, change it. You can’t simply sit and yell at your reality the way you yell at your TV. And here’s a metaphor: people control the channel that they watch – they can’t blame anyone else if they don’t like the show. In the olden days, they had to get up off the couch to change the channel; today they can do it with their TV remote or iPhone; tomorrow, they can change the channel simply by making a choice. As with anything else.
But the first step is to own up to the fact that while they personally might have liked the show at the start, they are tired of it now – in extreme.
You don’t like the show anymore? You didn’t like it from the first episode? You got a sick feeling in your stomach when you saw the pilot episode? Stop yelling at the TV. Change the channel!
