As of this moment in time, there are about 19 million known chemical substances, but the number is doubling every 13 years. The miracle of exponential math leads us to 80 million by 2025, and 1 billion by the year 2100. What's it mean? It was the discovery of one single new chemical substance that allowed Apple to miniaturize the hard drive for the original Apple iPod - a new multi-billion dollar market. That's the reality of new market and product innovation, and it was these types of disruptive trends that I covered in my opening keynote for this organization, one of the largest scientific organizations in the world. Innovative organizations align themselves to fast, disruptive trends and turn them into opportunities!
