“Don’t be mediocre in your efforts. Work to be spectacular in your results!”
You won’t get to the big stages in life if you don’t play the clubs – and if you don’t succeed in the small clubs, you won’t have a chance of moving on.
You might be playing a small club today – and its kind of tough, right? The audience is not responsive, the acoustics are bad, the staging is depressing, and the attendance is off. You are about to go on, and are wondering if it will ever get better.
And this is what you do – you go out and plan to give that audience the best performance of your life. You give it everything you’ve got. You focus on being spectacular – you don’t focus on the negativity of the moment.
And it works! And its a steppingstone! And eventually, the stages get bigger, bolder, brighter, more exciting! And while sometimes your passion flagged, you gained more inspiration each and every step along the way.
That’s been my story. I’ve been at it for 25 years, and there were some pretty depressing moments; some pretty lousy stages; some audiences that made me wonder if I should stick with this crazy career.
And then, one day, it all changed. I walked in front of 7,000 people at the Center for the Performing Arts in Las Vegas, with a $1/2 million stage that the client had built for the event, and I was floored. And I delivered.
Today – will you give a mediocre effort? Or will you give whatever you are doing everything you’ve got?
It’s an important decision!
Oh, and the quote! I was as the gym yesterday with my trainer. She was trying to get me to do a new thing. I focused on it! And the quote floated into my head…
