Jim Carroll delivered the keynote address at a Pearson Education leadership conference in 2011, speaking to senior executives of one of the world’s largest educational publishers and learning services companies on the radical transformation coming to how knowledge is delivered, consumed, and credentialed. Pearson was at the time navigating the most disruptive decade in the history of educational publishing — the collision of digital textbooks, open educational resources, online learning platforms, and the fundamental questioning of traditional degree pathways. Carroll’s keynote challenged Pearson’s leadership to see the disruption not as a threat to be managed but as an invitation to lead — to be the organization that defined what 21st-century learning infrastructure looked like rather than defending a 20th-century content model.
