I've accumulated a lot of phrases over the years. Some started on a keynote stage. Some came out of a client conversation. Some emerged while I was trying to make sense of a trend that didn't yet have a useful name. Others appeared somewhere in the thousands of articles, research notes, trend reports and observations I've written over several decades. I call them Jimisms. They're short phrases built around bigger ideas. The Acceleration Gap. Yesterday's Logic. Digital Twin Thinking. Category Blur. Change Muscle. Just-in-Time Knowledge. Volatility as an Asset. And there are a lot more. What I've realized is that many of these phrases are useful because they give us a shorthand for something much bigger happening in business. A complicated trend becomes easier to understand once you can name it. And once you can name it, you can start asking better questions about it. What does it mean for strategy? Where is the risk? What changes for leadership? What assumptions have expired? What should we be doing differently? That's the idea behind a new series I'm launching: Jimisms: Ideas for What Comes Next. Each one will start with a phrase from the collection and then unpack the business issue behind it. Sometimes it will be about AI. Sometimes leadership, innovation, risk, workforce, energy, customers, disruption, technology or strategy. But the goal will always be the same: Take a big shift and make it easier to understand, easier to discuss and, most importantly, easier to act on. I've spent much of my career studying what happens next. This series is about turning some of that accumulated thinking into short, practical ideas you can actually use. Short phrases. Big ideas. Business insight for what comes next. Welcome to Jimisms. jimisms.jimcarroll.com
