## Article Content
For most of history, expertise meant knowing a lot. Increasingly, expertise means being able to get the right knowledge at exactly the right moment. That's Just-in-Time Knowledge. Think about a technician standing beside an unfamiliar machine. An engineer troubleshooting an unexpected fault. A doctor confronting an unusual case. A salesperson answering a complex customer question. The traditional model says we train them in advance and hope they remember enough when the moment arrives. The emerging model is very different. Give them the exact procedure. The exact diagram. The relevant history. The right expert insight. The appropriate AI assistance. Right there. Right then. Three things change: Learning moves into the workflow. Training isn't something that happens only before the work.Context becomes more valuable than volume. A thousand pages of documentation matter less than the right paragraph at the right moment.Knowing how to know becomes a core skill. Finding, validating and applying knowledge becomes as important as memorizing it. This doesn't make expertise less important. It changes what expertise looks like. The smartest person in the room may no longer be the one carrying the largest inventory of facts. It may be the person who can rapidly identify what they don't know, access reliable knowledge, understand it and apply it correctly. Knowledge is becoming less about storage and more about delivery. Right knowledge. Right moment. Better decision. jimisms.jimcarroll.com
