# Jimism #001: The Attention Recession

## Article Content
When everyone is chasing attention, there is none. We spent years talking about the information explosion. We should have been talking about the attention implosion. AI has made the production of content essentially limitless. Articles, videos, images, emails, presentations, social posts, pitches and marketing campaigns can now be generated faster than any human being could possibly consume them. But there is one thing AI has not figured out how to manufacture. More human attention. That's the Attention Recession. Supply is exploding while the resource everyone is competing for remains fixed. And that changes the rules. The old strategy was to produce more. Post more. Email more. Publish more. Be everywhere. The new strategy is to matter more. Three implications: Relevance beats volume. If what you are saying doesn't matter immediately to the person receiving it, more content simply creates more noise.Distinctiveness becomes an asset. When everyone has access to the same AI tools, sounding like everyone else becomes remarkably easy. Being genuinely different becomes remarkably valuable.Trust becomes a filter. When people cannot process everything, they increasingly rely on sources, people and brands they already believe are worth their time. That's the strange paradox of the AI content boom. The easier it becomes to say something, the harder it becomes to get anyone to listen. The winners won't necessarily be the people producing the most content. They'll be the people producing the few things worth stopping for. That's the Attention Recession. And we're only at the beginning of it. jimisms.jimcarroll.com
