“Driveway dronepads. Automatic robo-lockers. These two innovations with last mile delivery will forever change global supply chains!”Futurist Jim Carroll

I’m often booked by some of the leading speakers bureaus in the world, and I’ll often circle with them to see what their global client base is thinking about in terms of the future.

The other day, one responded to me that his clients are “looking for someone to speak on supply chains and how technology impacts them going forward.”

Right up my alley! Today I’m going to do a few posts around this concept.

First up? As you will see on my “20 Trends into 2030” summary (https://2030.jimcarroll.com), one of my main observations is that we are transitioning from an era in which we go and get ‘stuff’ – and increasingly, the ‘stuff’ comes to us.

Obviously, Amazon is driving this trend, but all around the trend there are fascinating developments occurring. Example: we will see the mainstreaming of local drone delivery tech in major urban centres faster than we might think.

In this particular photo, I’m in a Q&A season at a global congress in Muscat, Oman. I’m speaking to this issue – and talking about a world in which there is a lot of innovation with what we call ‘last mile delivery.’

I’m observing how one my clients – a luxury home builder in Houston – actually plans to include ‘delivery drone pads’ as a part of every driveway for future builds. That might be combined with automatic storage lockers which will automatically grab and store just-delivered packages for safe-keeping!

Crazy idea? Not at all! There are enormous sums of money going into every single aspect of delivery of products to our homes – groceries, consumer products and more.

This weekend, I will be keynoting the American Truck Dealers Association in Las Vegas, and one of the trends I will talk about? The fact that we are going to see fascinating developments at the back of freight trucks – with the arrival of all kinds of small delivery truck technology as a part of this trend.

Stay tuned! The future of supply chains is fast!
