# Keynote Case Study: CDW Executive Summit — Agile Leadership Was Becoming an IT Imperative
By

## Article Content
CDW brought me into a series of executive summits in Dallas, Miami and Phoenix. The consistent theme was agile leadership. Technology organizations were confronting an environment in which change was no longer occasional. Cloud. Mobile. Security. Data. New business models. Changing workforce expectations. The CIO could no longer operate only as the executive responsible for keeping technology running. The role was becoming increasingly strategic. Six themes framed the discussion: Agile Leadership. Technology leaders needed to respond faster to changing business needs. Strategic IT. IT was becoming more central to business strategy. Technology Acceleration. New platforms and tools were arriving on shorter cycles. Business Alignment. Technology priorities needed to track changing organizational goals. Skills Change. IT talent and knowledge requirements were evolving continuously. Continuous Adaptation. Leadership increasingly required an operating model built for ongoing change. The multi-city nature of the engagement reinforced the point. Different markets. Different leaders. The same strategic reality. Agile leadership was becoming an IT imperative because the business could no longer move faster than the technology organization supporting it.
