From the stage Speaking to the banking technology community at Finastra, I described a period in which so many trends were arriving at once that industries were rewriting their own timelines for change: "I don't think we've ever lived in a period of time in which we have seen so many trends come together, all at once." Then I asked the question that matters most: "Who owns the future of innovation?" Increasingly, it's technology-based companies that can innovate faster than traditional organizations, as every industry becomes a software industry. Why it matters If the pace of change in your industry is being set by someone else, you're playing their game. Traditional organizations don't have to become tech companies overnight, but they do have to learn to innovate at a faster clock speed, or partner with those who can. "Some people see the future and see a threat. Innovators see the same future and see an opportunity." The takeaway Who sets the pace of innovation in your industry today? Is it you? Find one process you could run at "software speed." Partner where you can't build fast enough yourself.
