Time to grade myself. Here's how I framed it in the original post: Farming is transforming through vertical integration, robotics, data science, and 24/7 operations. This is not just about feeding more people, but instead, completely reimagining food production for the technology and digital age. As I've always liked to say on stage, we're moving from a world in which we are no longer restricted to farming when the sun is up. We're moving to a world in which we can be farming 24 hours a day. So how's the digital harvest doing a year in? Robotics kept scaling — the agriculture-robotics market climbed to roughly $23.3 billion in 2026, up from $18.8 billion, as autonomous seeding, laser weeding, and multi-armed harvesters moved from pilot to standard infrastructure. Misumi and Oishii Farm partnered to push AI-controlled robotic vertical farms, one of many venture-backed North American builds still chasing profitability at scale. But the bigger story a year on is the state-sponsored track I flagged. Singapore opened the world's tallest vertical farm in January — a 23-metre, AI-and-robotics tower in Jurong West producing 2,000 tonnes of vegetables a year, part of a government push to grow 30% of the country's own food by 2030 against 90% import dependence. In the Gulf it's bigger money still: Plenty Unlimited and Mawarid Holding are building a $680 million network of indoor farms across the Middle East, starting with a $130 million flagship in Abu Dhabi, inside a regional CEA market now near half a billion dollars and compounding at 15%+ annually. And "digital terroir" stopped being a metaphor. Growers now run recipe-switchable LED spectra tuned to growth stage — violet-heavy light lifting basil's anthocyanin enough to earn a 9% price premium at Whole Foods, UV-B pulses deployed deliberately to sharpen flavor and nutrient density. Flavor is becoming a dial you turn, not an accident of soil and season. Verdict: Nailed it — and broader than the robotics headlines suggest. Both development models are real now: Singapore and the Gulf proving the food-security case with sovereign money, North America still proving the unit economics. Either way, the digital harvest isn't dawning anymore. It's operating on three continents at once.
