For the Sports & Fitness Industry Association conference in New Orleans, where Roger Goodell followed me on stage, I opened with a customized keynote on how digital interaction, embedded technology and a new generation of consumers would reshape sports products and participation. The keynote, “Interactive Technology, Disruption and the Future of Sports,” made the point with a single prop. Some people saw a baseball bat. I saw the future. Physical sporting goods were becoming connected, data rich experiences while product innovation accelerated toward Silicon Valley speed. Smart clothing, hyperconnected equipment, genomic sports medicine and a next generation expecting interaction everywhere were the response. Six trends are shaping that shift. Smart Clothing. Embedded sensors turn apparel into real time health and performance platforms. Connected Equipment. From bats and clubs to bikes and racquets, products are becoming intelligent, data rich and interactive. Genomic Sports Medicine. Personalized training, injury prevention and recovery are increasingly shaped by genetic insight. Immersive Experiences. Digital interaction, virtual engagement and connected experiences reshape participation and fandom. Evolving Consumers. The next generation expects products and brands to be interactive, connected and personalized. Data-Driven Business. Analytics unlock new services, recurring revenue and smarter customer relationships. The future of sports is all interactive, all the time. Sports and fitness is one of the more fun rooms to make this argument in, mostly because everyone in it already owns the device that proves the point. You can browse more of that work in the case studies collection here.
