Jim Carroll opened the HR Southwest Conference in Dallas, Texas in October 2012, delivering the opening keynote address to approximately 2,000 human resources professionals from across the Southwest United States. HR Southwest is one of the largest regional HR conferences in the country, bringing together talent acquisition leaders, HR executives, organizational development professionals, and workforce strategists for a multi-day program of education and networking. Carroll’s opening keynote challenged HR leaders to grapple with the structural transformation coming to the workforce — the collision of demographic change, skills acceleration, and the rapidly evolving nature of work itself as automation, AI, and connected collaboration tools began to reshape every job category. The message: the HR function of 2020 would look fundamentally different from 2012, and the organizations that figured out how to build adaptive, skills-agile workforces first would have a decisive competitive advantage in an economy defined by relentless change.
