# From the Stage: Iterative Design
By

## Article Content
From the stage Speaking at the International Finance Corporation, I described how 3D printing and rapid prototyping change the very nature of design: "The future of manufacturing is found in what we call iterative design." Instead of designing once and producing millions of identical units, you design, print, test, learn and redesign. "This fundamentally changes the very nature of the design process." Why it matters Iteration isn't just for manufacturers. Any team that can test small, learn quickly and adjust beats the team that spends a year perfecting a plan. The mindset shift is from get it right first to get it out, then get it right. The takeaway Where are you over-planning something that could be tested? Build a quick prototype, whether a product, a process or a pitch, and get feedback. Treat every launch as version one.
