Part of my “26 Principles, Revisited” series — checking my own math, nine months into the year I predicted. Don't be average. Don't be boring. Be bold. Be fascinating! Day 26 closed the series with the simplest, and hardest, discipline of all: refusing the comfortable pull of “good enough” in a world that increasingly rewards only the bold and the distinctive. That idea turned into its own project this year — my companion books Embracing Mediocrity and Escaping Mediocrity, built on the same thirty years of watching what makes teams and leaders either settle or break through. One catalogues the comfortable habits that keep you average. The other hands you the way out. Twenty-six principles, twenty-six days, and it turns out the last one was worth writing two whole books about. Verdict: Nailed it — nailed it enough to spend the year turning it into a pair of books. That’s all 26. Same time next year? Count on it.
