Part of my “26 Principles, Revisited” series — checking my own math, nine months into the year I predicted. The hubris of experience guarantees failure. Day 12 warned that deep expertise in the old way of doing things becomes the fastest route to irrelevance once the underlying rules change — confidence built on past success is exactly what blinds you to a new failure mode. 2026’s AI rollout scorecard reads like a case study in this. Only about one in eight CEOs report their AI investments delivering both cost savings and revenue growth at once — meaning the great majority of leadership teams that confidently greenlit big AI bets on the strength of their own experience are still waiting to be proven right. Experience got a lot of people in the door. It didn’t get most of them the result. Verdict: Confirmed — the hubris showed up right on schedule, in the boardroom. Next up: Principle #13, Wisdom Inversion — revisited.
