Part of my “26 Principles, Revisited” series — checking my own math, nine months into the year I predicted. Learn faster than knowledge appears. It's your only sustainable advantage. Day 5’s claim: your degree, your decade of experience, is a finite asset in a world where knowledge itself is exploding. The only skill that doesn’t decay is the speed at which you can learn the next one. The numbers have only sharpened since. Multiple 2026 workforce analyses now put the half-life of a technical skill at two to five years — down from a historical eight to twelve — and closer to two and a half for fields like AI and software engineering specifically. That’s not gradual decay. That’s a skill going stale inside a single job tenure. Verdict: Nailed it — the data caught up to the argument within the year. Next up: Principle #6, Iterative Obsession — revisited.
