I burned out. I tried to manage things, and failed. Sobriety cured it. Watch this: that's me on stage, 2015, vs 2017. The difference is stark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exegLrkwNw0&feature=youtu.be In the former case, I was pushing things hard - 3 to 4 events a week, 100 events a year, 150,000 miles. I thought I was a road warrior. Until I wasn't. Something had to give, and I gave in. Looking back, I still can't believe I let myself get to that state. I showed up on stages, delivered my insight, but to be honest, for a time from about 2014 to 2016, it wasn't my best. Prior to that, I had mastered it all from 1993 to 2013 - 20 years of rock solid road life performance. And then it got to be too much. I thought I hit the peak of my career, but instead, I was flaming out. I 'medicated' on the road to get by - after living a clean road life for so long. The shame of who I was still lingers. My pain for the clients caught during the time still lingers. My recollection of that frantic era still lingers. But from July 26, 2016, I truly was reborn - and since then, have delivered my best work, EVER. If you are caught in the throes of your own personal burnout, and want to know how to get out, call me.
