Keynote Case Study: Ammega: Materials Handling Was Becoming Smarter, Cleaner And Faster.

Jim Carroll’s keynote for Ammega showed industrial leaders how automation, mobility, conveying systems and digital reinvention were building faster, more resilient and more competitive operations.

The keynote, “Materials Handling Was Becoming Smarter, Cleaner And Faster,” laid out the challenge and the path forward.

Industrial systems needed to move more product, with more visibility, and with less downtime. As e-commerce volumes grew and customer expectations tightened, materials handling could no longer be a background function — it had to become a source of competitive advantage in its own right.

Six trends are shaping that shift.

• Smart Conveying. Smarter, more adaptive conveying was moving goods faster with greater reliability.
• Predictive Maintenance. Data-driven insight was preventing downtime and keeping operations running at peak performance.
• Food + Safety Traceability. End-to-end traceability was ensuring product safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• E-Commerce Fulfillment. Automation and flexible systems were meeting growing e-commerce demands with speed and accuracy.
• Energy Efficiency. More efficient systems were lowering energy use, reducing costs and supporting sustainability goals.
• Digital Operations. Real-time data, AI and connected systems were enabling faster decisions and smarter operations.

The future of materials handling, Jim argued, would be connected, efficient, traceable and built for continuous flow.

What stands out in the belting and conveying world is how much competitive advantage hides in the details — a few percentage points of uptime, a faster changeover, better traceability. Jim’s message to Ammega’s audience was simple: those details, multiplied across a global operation, are the whole game. Explore more keynote case studies.
