“The secret to personal motivation? Find a thing that inspires you. Do it daily. Stick with it for a long time!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

Be inspired by your inspiration!

I had a lot of nice feedback on my ‘secrets of success’ post last week, so I thought I would put together another one that is somewhat a little more personal.

Why do I write these Daily Inspiration posts? Why have I managed to put one together every single working day, without fail, since early August 2016? Why are there now close to 1,500 of them? Why have they taken on a life of their own, becoming the first thing I do each morning as I start my day, before tackling anything else? Why have I spent time piecing them together in the past while over the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans on my way to events in Dubai, Tokyo, London, and Paris?

I do it because not only do people enjoy them – I love your feedback! – but they work for me too! In fact, these posts have taken on a life of their own, becoming one of the key factors that have kept me motivated and inspired about the world around me!

Back in early August 2016, I embarked on a voyage that involved some pretty significant personal changes, and needed to push myself to see things through. Somehow or other, one day the process of putting my thoughts together into a little post – originally written to motivate myself – seemed to light a spark. I shared it on social media, and it got a reaction from a few folks. So I did it again the next day – and that seemed to work again. And so I did it the next day.

And now, here we are! Often, the easiest way to get moving is to find one thing that will get you moving – that one unique little action that can spur you on to other actions.

In my case, the simple little process of spending time in the morning to pull together my thoughts has provided me with a unique motivational path, giving me clarity to my day. After I wrap up this process and have breakfast, I’ll head out on a 6.6km walk through the forest trails out my backdoor and will spend my time thinking about my plan for the day – what client projects I will tackle, some research I’ve thought through in my mind, what work I need to do in the yard, what new trends I’m thinking about. It’s pretty much guaranteed that I’ll use my iPhone to type in a few new Daily Inspiration quotes that I will then use in the coming weeks – my silent walk through the forest leads to additional moments of inspirational clarity!

I will be inspired by my inspiration. LOL!

It works for me – and the simple process of committing to my Daily Inspiration has given me massive amounts of inspiration. Who knew!

By the way, I’ve started my Monday mornings with an Inspiration Recap, where I look back at some of the posts of the previous week, explaining the thought process or thinking behind them. I did this so that I can stay ‘fresh’ with my abilities in my virtual studio even as I start to return to in-person events, and these too are taking on a life of their own. Here’s the one from last Monday – I usually go ‘live’ on various social networks mid-Monday mornings!
