“Progress often involves slow steps towards the achievable rather than away from the insurmountable!” – Futurist Jim Carroll
Five years into this daily journey of inspiration, I often get that all-knowing look from a friend who knows that I’m quickly writing down or typing in a potential quote that I just heard.
It happens on the golf course, while out for a walk, during a random get-together virtual or otherwise, or during a meeting. My radar seems to be constantly tuned to seeking out inspiration. (One fellow I golf with told me that it has impacted my conversations, in that I tend to talk with exclamation marks!)
And so it was yesterday when I heard a good friend state the obvious – we often judge ourselves too often on our failure to make big, bold leaps, and don’t give ourselves enough credit for the small, irregular steps that we might take along the journey. The result is that we often don’t see our progress, or don’t measure it correctly, because we are looking for the evidence of the massive win, not the small, regular signs of committed success.
This really resonated with me!
As long as we are moving forward, not back, we’re succeeding. As long as we stay committed to our goal, and not shying away from it, we can take pride in our efforts. As long as we do the work towards what we want to accomplish, we’re on the right track.
And so a shout out to my good buddy Ian, for unknowingly providing fuel for my inspiration fire early this morning!
