“You will always have the opportunity to turn the worst day of your life into the rest of your life!” – Futurist Jim Carroll
“We can be heroes, just for one day.” Heroes, the Bowie song as performed by the Hollywood Vampires, is the soundtrack of my life as of today, as of this moment, as of this instant. It’s a powerful song, full of the inspiration of optimism that can set the tone for your day. Play it loud!
All of the members of the Hollywood Vampires – a band started by my golfing hero Alice Cooper – have reinvented their lives, their purpose, their abilities, and their future. All of them are an inspiration to me each and every day, as are many other people who have pursued a similar path of reinvention through optimism, by choosing to live the best life they might ever live.
Yet each member of the band, at some moment in time, has found themselves staring into the abyss of desperation, on a path to destruction. The song resonates with so many people because each of them, at a particular moment in time, decided to abandon what brought them to that day, and chose the path by which they could be a hero.
Each and every day, all of us have the opportunity to live the best life we might ever live – we should never forget that fact! We always need to remember this – particularly on those days when the world goes dark. Because it is at that very moment that we can choose to be a hero.
You always have the opportunity to live the best life you might ever live, when you conquer those demons by being a hero, just for one day. Five years ago today, I had my last drink. Today, I’m celebrating being a hero. Just for one day.
