“Stop waiting for the future to happen – make it happen!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

The global pandemic has thrown many an organization into a constant status of indecision, and individuals into a state of suspended animation. Too many are waiting for clarity that does not exist – when will things be open? When will we be ‘back to normal?’ When can we go back to work? When will the pandemic end? When will the jellybeans be back in the Clubhouse?

Here’s the thing – there’s not a chance that we are going back to where we were – we will only be going to where we will be next, and that ‘next’ is still pretty unclear. There are far too many moving parts to be specific about the exact nature and timing of the future – but with careful analysis, it is possible to determine the broad brushstrokes of where the future is taking us.

Certainty? The only that is certain is that the last twelve months have caused a massive and epic upheaval in the access of our universe. We know certain trends are real – trends now happen faster, globalization is broken, new disruptive reactionary strategies are dominant, society is massively split, disparities abound, patience is thin.

Ten years from now, we will be able to look back and clearly define the small sparks that led to big change – but the art right now is to discover and find those small sparks and assess what they really mean. Those sparks should be your catalyst for action because it is the decisions that you make at this very moment that will let you best turn them into a sustainable fire of opportunity.

At least, that’s my theory.

Get moving!
