I was interviewed by a 15-year-old journalist yesterday about the future and decided I should speak from within a spaceship.

So I went and found one!

The show should run tonight on CBC Kids News, an initiative of our national broadcaster in Canada that allows a number of young people to provide news and commentary to their peers in a professional manner. It’s a wonderful initiative, and the show should run later today. I’ll be certain to post it!

The quote really has nothing to do with the context of what I was speaking about yesterday but is based on the guidance that I would often provide from the stage to my audiences. Sadly, I’ve watched too many people, organizations, professions, and industries let the future pass them by because they’ve been unable to develop the initiative to move forward.

This is most often because they don’t have the ability to try to imagine what the future might look like – it is all too easy to fall into the trap of thinking that everything will stay the same. They lack the decisiveness that is necessary to begin making the big, bold steps necessary to get involved in that future. And they simply don’t have the drive necessary to get going.
