“Accelerate your future: imaginate more!” – Futurist Jim Carroll

Today’s theme in my series “Insight 2020: Leadership Insight for the Era of Acceleration” is “Imaginate More!” Learn more about the series here: https://insight2020.jimcarroll.com – it runs through the month!

It’s not often that you get to coin what turns out to be a really cool word. I didn’t really, but thought I did – you can learn about the story here.

Yesterday, while preparing for today’s theme, built around this word, I decided that I wanted some sort of really futuristic stage photo. I was trying to explain this to my oldest son Willie – who is an awesome photographer, drone pilot, GIS expert, digital mapping guru and more – and at one point, said I wanted a photo of me overlaid on “imaginary star things.”

I would imagine this would have sent he and his girlfriend into howls of laughter.

Back to the quote. Well over 15 years ago, I pointed out to members of an audience that I thought the world of business had it all wrong – with fast change and the era of acceleration, we certainly didn’t need more MBA’s – or Masters in Businss Administration.

We need more people with an MBI – a Masters in Business Imagination!

You can’t solve new problems with old solutions. You can’t simply fix your way into the future. You’ll discover that old ideas are simply that. You’ll quickly learn that conventional thinking is a pathway to failure.

You can’t expect that simply doing things the right way is going to be the correct way.

When we place too much emphasis on administration and not enough on imagination, we fail at our ability to align to a dramatically different future.

So if you do anything today – imaginate more!
