Have you ever noticed that disappointment always seems to be an equal opportunity partner to success?” – #Futurist Jim Carroll

It’s true! As soon as you encounter the joy of something wonderful – wham! Reality has a way of beating you back down!

That’s how the day started for my older son this morning!

He’s off starting on a grand entrepreneurial adventure, and had some wonderful news from a client last night. This morning, while setting out on another project, his car wouldn’t start! It was an early morning for him, 445am!

The nature of the project is such that timing mattered. His window of opportunity for the day disappeared!

He’s handling it well, though, and so his ability to navigate his way through the ups and downs of this thing that is called life and business will serve him well into the future!

Do you have the same ability in your personal life? How about with your innovation efforts?

Innovation is all about trying new ideas – and failure is an inherent part of the deal. Things won’t go well at times, and your ability to manage the downside that comes with a crushing blow will be a critical part of what you can learn from your efforts.

Essentially, you have two choices – you can focus on the disappointment itself – or you can quickly move beyond that and get into the mindset, ‘what can I learn from what has gone wrong?”

Every crushing blow is an opportunity! Every downturn has an upside! Every negative thing is really just a positive thing, hidden in a cloak of potential sadness.

It’s your ability to turn disappointment into an asset that will help to define you!
