“Mindset matters! The future will happen whether you like it or not. It’s what you do with it that counts!” – Futurist  Jim Carroll

When it comes to New Years Eve, many people focus on the celebrations that will occur later tonight.

I like think about the year that has gone past, and the years yet to come! For a futurist, New Years Eve is always a moment for quiet reflection, because it signals the end of another year within our overall trends horizon.

So what was one of the biggest trends I saw in 2018? The importance of a future oriented attitude! Mindset!!!! I think I used the phrase “mindset matters” a lot on stage during the year.

As the world speeds up, change accelerates and volatility begins to rock our daily lives, I noticed that a greater number of executives who are booking me to speak at their events want a message, not just on the trends of tomorrow, but one inbmued with hope on what the future might bring.

That’s because people are feeling battered and bruised by the current climate of anti-science, anti-progress, anti-diversity, and anti-hope.

The Jetsons, quite frankly, are tried of the the Flintstones around them. They need to have a reminder that in the long run, their world of progressive reality will supersede the world of fake disbelief.

And so with that my bookings take me more into the path of being a “motivational futurist.” A seer of tomorrow who inspires a sense of hope with what comes next.

People don’t want a motivational speaker with a simple message that all you need to do is walk on fire! That’s like Chinese food – an hour later, you forget what you heard!

They want a motivational message that is aligned to the realities of what will occur tomorrow. They want a message that combines detailed insight on future trends with a message on the attitudes, actions and activities that will get them there.

They want a pathway to real success based on unfolding realities, rather than simply a hopeful message of inspiration. They want concrete and substantive information, rather than wishy-washy feel-good fluff.

They want mindset!
