“If your life is a story, then today you should start outlining a new plot!” – #Futurist Jim Carroll
Do you remember that song by Supertramp, with the key line: “And when you’re up on the stage, it’s so unbelievable…” It’s from the song, “Take the Long Way Home,” and its the story of life on the road.
I’ve been on the road for 25 years, and I’ve gone from small ‘risers’ with a podium, to a few massive Las Vegas venues. I marvel sometimes at the rooms that I walk into and the stage they’ve built for my event.
And along the way, I’ve had to rewrite the story of the future several times along the way. The trends I predicted 25 years ago now surround us in our daily lives; what I spoke about 10 years ago is now becoming routine; what I identified 5 years ago is now on the edge of delivery. I need to constantly rethink, reanalyze and rework my trends forecasts to stay in front of an increasingly faster future.
I’ve been continuously rewriting the story fo the future, because the future keeps catching up!
It’s a good idea to keep changing your story too – personally and professionally. You might not like the current stage of affairs that you find yourself in – change it! You might not take great joy in your current career path – change it! You might be frustrated with your current career skills – rework them! It’s never too late too change the story! Because your life too is a stage, and you want to make it unbelievable
