“Never take yourself too seriously!” – Futurist  Jim Carroll

‘’ Having some fun while covering a serious topic is always important!

Somehow I came across Jay @hotillustration and had him take a run at doing up an illustrated image of me on stage. It’s find of a fascinating shot at it. (The photo is from a keynote I gave in London, UK last year.) When I’m on stage, I’m speaking about the future, and that makes some people in the room uncomfortable, worried, concerned – because the future involves change, and change can be very difficult.

Hence, have some fun! In my keynotes, I’ve got a whole series of routines and humour hooks which I weave into my talks, and they are pretty effective at bringing comfort to a worried audience! Relax, goes the thinking – it’s not all bad!

One of my favourite routines which I used on stage for years was my “Things from the Olden Days” story – which is pretty effective for baby boomers.

Another effective, killer routine is my story line on “Why is Teenage Sex like? — such as “Why are Self Drivign Cars a Lot Like Teenage Sex?”. Killer material! (Safe for work!). I’ll roll it out again for an upcoming keynote on cryptocurrency keynote.
The storyline always brings the house down! Samples – “Because everyone thinks that everyone else is doing it.” “The few who are doing it aren’t doing it very well.”

Key point – when it comes to the future, its always helpful to lighten up – including in your personal life!

Regardless of your current burden, personal demons, or big challenges, there’s always an opportunity to sit back, lighten up, and lower the seriousness a bit!’’
