‘’ The gym where I work out has a variety of motivational posters all around the walls. Often, while I am often working on a routine, I’m staring at them, trying to figure out what they mean. Much to the frustration of my trainer, my mind wanders, trying to link their message to my time on the stage as a global futurist. She accuses me of lacking focus – I think I am simply multi-tasking!

The other day, I was looking at one which had the typical phrase about being awesome, and it got me thinking. How do you get there? What do you have to do to be awesome? Is it wrong to work at the goal of being extraordinary?

I don’t think so – you have a brief time in this world, and so why not give it everything you’ve got? Why would you ever have a goal of being mediocre?

And so the phrase popped into my head: “Earn your awesome.” Today’s quote unspooled from there at staggering speed! I had to rush to my phone to type it in.

I think its ok to make ‘awesomeness’ a personal goal – you can’t be at your best if you don’t try to do your best! You won’t be exceptional in your efforts if you don’t decide that’s who you want to be in the first place!

I’ve been working on these daily motivational quotes for almost 18 months now. The process of putting them together each morning has provided significant change into what I do as a futurist – the thoughts behind theme are becoming more and more a part of my stage presentation! The very process of focusing on my message has led to a better message.
And that shows in the feedback that is coming in on my keynotes through the last 18 months. I don’t think I have ever been more energized or alive during my time on the stage. There is a new passion, energy and enthusiasm in my work, as I’ve focused on trying to ‘earn my awesome’ by helping to change the lives of those in the room with my insight.
