“Don’t just try to go from ‘good’ to ‘great.’ Go from ‘good’ to ‘awesome!” - Futurist  Jim Carroll One of the most popular books of all time is “Good to Great” from Jim Collins. It provides insight on how various companies achieved success through a variety of factors. The list includes, Fannie Mae, Gillette, Wells Fargo, Circuit City, Pitney Bowes, Addressograph, Walgreens and Eckerd. Notice anything? Recognize any of them as the leading lights of the year 2018? And what the heck is an Addressograph? Do we even live in that era? I’ll often point out from the stage that going to great is not enough anymore in the high velocity economy. Instead, you need to focus on what is one of my favourite words - AWESOME! If your competition is tearing up the rules; your business model is being destroyed; your product is changing rapidly; and your customers are abandoning you for something much better, what’s the point of being GREAT? It’s no longer good enough - you need to be big and bold and try to get the AWESOME. It’s a great personal mantra too. It need not involve ego and boasting, but is simply a goal that will help you to focus your efforts, bear down, and try to achieve great things. It’s one of my favourite words to use in the gym when my trainer is trying to get me to do something new, something beyond my abilities, or something that I haven’t done before. So your goal today? Be AWESOME!
