# Keynote Case Study: Henry Schein — Amazonification Was Rewriting Healthcare Distribution

Henry Schein serves more than 100,000 medical professionals across dental, medical and veterinary markets. That made its leadership team especially exposed to a major strategic question: What happens when Amazon-style competition reaches healthcare distribution? My keynote focused on strategic thinking in the era of Amazonification. The issue was larger than Amazon itself. It was about the expectations digital commerce creates. Faster ordering. Greater transparency. Simpler transactions. Broader selection. And relentless pressure on traditional distribution models. Six themes framed the discussion: Amazonification. Digital commerce was resetting expectations around speed, convenience and selection. Healthcare Distribution. Traditional distribution models were facing new competitive pressure. Accelerating Medical Science. The products and technologies being distributed were themselves changing rapidly. Changing Professional Customers. Medical professionals increasingly expected more digital and efficient supplier relationships. Consumer Influence. Patients and consumers were exerting more influence on healthcare markets. Strategic Reinvention. Distributors needed to define value beyond simply moving products. The threat was not that a digital company could ship a box. The threat was that it could redefine the customer's expectation of the entire relationship. Amazonification was rewriting healthcare distribution — and traditional scale alone would not be enough.
